Lumbridge is by-and-large the friendliest, most accommodating city in all of Gielinor. It’s a quiet town, located on the west bank of the River Lum, and will be the first port of call to many players starting their adventure in RuneScape.
And what better place to learn the game’s controls, make new friends and ease yourself into the game proper? All across Lumbridge are areas where you can practice new skills, train in the art of war and more, all thanks to the kind residents who are always on hand to arm you with the knowledge to help you survive the dangers of Gielinor.
Lumbridge is predominantly a rural area, with farms and windmills located north of the village. The people that live here have had to fight hard for every success they’ve ever had for generations – even the grey stone that the walls were originally built still stand, worn and full of character as testament to the residents’ strong willpower.
But the residents are still helpful to outsiders, and will take time from their busy schedules to show you the ropes and help you get to grips with the RuneScape universe. The guards that can be found around the bordering walls aren’t just there for decoration. The guards are there to warn players below a total skill level of 60 that beyond their swords and spears are dangerous lands, where newer players should only wander with extreme caution.
Lumbridge’s weather is always fair, which makes it the ideal place for the farming community set up just north of the castle. There is also a windmill, which supplies most of the surrounding region with flour for bread, cakes and other baked treats!
Lumbridge lies directly south of the city of Varrock, the capital of Misthalin and seat of King Roald. East of Lumbridge is the gate to Al Kharid, a major desert town that spans the desert from the Lumbridge gate to the Shantay Pass. Travelling west from Lumbridge will deliver you to Draynor Village, a small town menaced by the owner of the ominous Draynor Manor. To the south of the town is Lumbridge Swamp, a sodden and dreary area filled with twisted mangroves.
As well as the quests highlighted on the map above, there is plenty to tackle in Lumbridge to help beginners and seasoned pros immerse themselves in the vast world of Gielinor.
For instance, the retailers in Lumbridge are some of the friendliest around, and understand that to entice new customers they may have to offer items for free. There are areas dotted all around Lumbridge where players can hone their combat, Fishing, Woodcutting and more. Try talking to as many people as you can. Residents have their own unique skills and are more than willing to take you under their wing and train you up!
The farms to the north of Lumbridge are also worth a look, as they are usually quite well stocked and the farmers are not inclined to complain if you are forced to steal a cabbage out of hunger. The field to the north of the windmill was once the home of Gnomecopter Tours, but, since it ceased trading, Beefy Bill has set up residence in the surrounding paddock. He will send any unnoted beef, cowhides or flour you have to your bank for a 10% commission.
The church just north of the graveyard is a good place to recharge your prayer points, and Father Aereck is always up for a chat about the finer points of modern theology.
Good old Roddeck is always on hand to give advice to new and seasoned players of RuneScape. It’s worth listening to his advice – he can be found in his house on the east side of Lumbridge, or you can call on him instantly by pressing the advisor button (a question mark) at the top-right of your game window. But is Roddeck actually nice, or is he trying to mend his ways after keeping a pet dragon that nearly laid waste to the entirety of Lumbridge? Eccentric crank or helpful old man? You decide…

A true hero, Xenia is looking to recruit the next generation of warrior, and has ample rewards for those who impress her.
